The first weekend in June was our "house-warming" cookout. We had a good time and ate lots of food!
The second weekend in June was the Route 66 festival. I heard about this event through a post someone shared on Facebook, and after discovering that Edwardsville participated, decided that I would drag the boys around our whole area :) There were 13 towns in Illinois that were participating, and you got to drive on old route 66.
So, in Edwardsville, we stopped at the "passport" station and picked up our official map.
I don't know if you can see it very well, but for each town that you visit, you get a stamp on your map. Kind of fun, right? I wanted to DO something in each town we visited, so..
In Edwardsville, we got Route 66 cupcakes.
Then in Collinsville, we paid a visit to the Catsup bottle and made Luke get in the cutout. He was thrilled, as you can tell :)
From Collinsville, we headed to Troy
And from Troy we headed up to Hamel, to eat lunch at Weezy's. Sorry, I neglected my picture taking during lunch. But our waitress sure was proud that she got the Hamel stamp perfectly inside the circle on our map.
From Hamel, we headed back to Glen Carbon, and enjoyed a few minutes of a bluegrass band and wandered through the historical museum. Luke enjoyed that too.
We only hit 5 of the 13 towns, due to time constraints because we had to get ready for a wedding. But overall, a kind of fun, out-of-the-ordinary way to spend the morning.
As far as weddings go, Lindsey and Jared's was very nice. Lindsey looked gorgeous, and we had some fun in their photo booth :)
We took in our first Cardinals game of the summer, Wednesday the 15th, and it was a scorcher! 100+ degrees and though we were in the shade, it was almost worse because we got zero breeze. So the air was stagnant and muggy and gross. Oh and we smelled food the whole time which made us very hungry. But, who is going to pay stadium food prices?! (Apparently a lot of people because everyone around us was eating...)
The st. Louis firemen had a truck outside the stadium that was spraying people with cold water, so naturally my husband decided to run through it. With his phone, Keys, wallet, etc.
Saturday the 18th was my(our) race. Noah and I both finished, Noah beat me (but, I knew he would). I was so disgusted with my time...but I am trying to remember that
1. I was hurt
2. I wasn't last!
3. I'll do better the next race.
We got free ice cream at the end! So that made things better :)
That evening, we met up with the rest of Micah's family and watched the Glen Carbon Homecoming parade. It was hot.
Camryn really enjoyed the parade :)
So did the boys.. (they hate parades for some reason)
After the parade we went to the food vendors and I got a sno-cone
Everyone ANXIOUSLY waiting the parade to start :)
It was a blessing to have my parents here over father's day weekend. We made and ate lots of food! They got to see our new house, and see me finish a race. We had some laughs, and got to spend time together and that's what matters. I made my dad a whole batch of cookies (that he got to eat most of, but mom, Micah and I also had a few) and mom and I made strawberry shortcake.
I also got a library card this month and joined the adult summer reading program at the Library. (Because, you know, I needed MORE to do :) )
So far, I've read Sail of Stone and The Girl in the Garden.
Sail of Stone was a mystery, set in Sweden. Without giving away any details, I can say that I figured out PART of it before the end, but not the rest.
The Girl in the Garden is about an 11-year old girl that goes to India to visit her extended family with her mother and ends up finding a girl in a garden in the woods at the back of her family's property. Is she family? Was she kidnapped? Who is she?? ...I'll never tell :)
We ended out our "something every weekend" streak with a weekend back "home". We swam in the pool, I got some aunt-time,
and then we ended the weekend with some Shakespeare in the Park, seeing A Midsummer Night's dream. The last showing was Sunday, June 26th. So naturally, that's what we went to. And in true fashion, we were late.
But, we had a pretty spectacular sunset. I don't usually take pictures of sunsets because it's never as pretty in a photo, and EVERYONE takes pictures of them.
Animal update: we are making progress, I believe. As long as one of us is HOLDING Eleanore, Atticus will come up to me. He just doesn't do well when Ellie has free roam and can come towards him. There is still growling and hissing, and freaking out, though.
Ellie knows how to sit on command. (Though, she is much more eager to do so if you have a treat)
She can lay down, stand up, and shake, too. Just...only sometimes. She hasn't quite learned them as well as 'sit'. Here is her "shaking" Micah's hand the other night.
She gets so excited for visitors that she will forget her manners and jump up on you. And she is most likely muddy, as she has been digging holes in her back yard. (Much to Micah's and my displeasure....)
She has figured out how stairs work, and we no longer have to carry her up and down them. Which is great, because she is getting heavy.
Speaking of stairs, Atticus has figured out that there is a basement and he has decided he likes it. I have accidentally locked him down there twice now by shutting the kitchen door that leads to the basement and several hours later we hear him crying and scratching at the door....oops..sorry, buddy.
So, overall, after having Ellie for a month, I think we are doing pretty well. I think she knows not to pee in the house, but we haven't figured out a way for her to TELL us when she needs to go out, so we have had several accidents...but that's to be expected.
Some exciting things are coming up in July and August, so ready-or-not, bring on the new month!
