I suppose you can add my husband and me to the list of people starting diets and "becoming healthier" again. Having a baby has really made the whole staying-active-eating-healthy-caring-about-my-appearance thing kind of hard. But alas, because we have left it unchecked for so long, we have both gained the 'new baby weight' and as he (our son) gets older and more active himself, we want to be able to chase him around without issue.
As far as 'resolutions' go, we didn't make any. That doesn't mean that I don't expect to do anything in 2018, far from it, actually. Instead of resolutions, I have set some goals. Some personal, some professional, and some in-general for everyday life.
But, before I get into those--- My favorite moments from 2017
- (March) We went to New Orleans for a long weekend: Ate some AMAZING food, heard some live New Orleans Jazz, got a free CD because someone knocked over the performer's tip jar on accident and the wind blew his tips down the street and Micah ran after it and gave it back to the band, rode a streetcar around the city, and spent a few days away from everyday life
- (April) We played with Kangaroos. Kentucky Down Under turned out to be a great road trip destination. We stayed at a bed and breakfast for the first time and spent the rest of our weekend touring caves!
- (July) Thatcher was born. I feel like I don't have to explain this one, our first child was born- it was the most memorable thing of 2017!
- (September) I got a new job! I attended the Apple Vacations Travel Show in Missouri with two fun ladies named Diane and Stephanie, and they surprised me by offering me a job as a travel agent, so naturally, when your dream job is offered...I took it!
- (October) I passed my real estate brokers exam. I started taking real estate classes at the beginning of September, and after reading a huge book, taking practice exams and sitting through classes every Saturday morning, I took (and passed) the Illinois Real Estate Broker exam in Springfield, IL. I had a position lined up at Landmark Realty, but the startup costs were too much for us to handle and I decided that I would have to abandon this endeavor, for now.
- (December) We took Thatcher on a road trip halfway across the US. Visiting Grandma and Grandpa Anderson is quite the undertaking when you have a 5 month old and a 12 hour drive, but we made it just fine and had a great week. Thatcher even got to visit the beach for the first time. While on the trip I got a new phone number, so there's that too.
Ok, projections for 2018:
- Get back into some sort of shape in order to run the St. Jude Half-Marathon in December
- Run a 5k in less than 30 minutes
- Travel, travel, travel!
- Specifically, we want to add 3 more states onto our map
- Actually finish my Italian class (I've been dancing around the half-way point for a year and a half because I do a few lessons and then don't pick it back up for a month and have to go back and re-do all the lessons I already did because it won't let me move on until I do..)
- Continue learning Japanese with my husband and start planning our trip to Japan for 2019
- Read 5 books for pleasure- I love reading, just making time for it is hard
- Read to Thatcher everyday - he loves books and we love the library!
I'm sure there are others, but for now, I think these are enough to keep me busy. My amazing husband is building me a new blog, so hopefully that will be up and going in a few months, since he is also building me a travel website! I'm so excited to see how that turns out.
